In 2019 Liechtenstein is celebrating its 300th anniversary and throughout the year there will be a variety of events. On January 23, Liechtenstein threw itself a “birthday party," which marked the very day 300 years ago in 1719 when the two parts of the country – the dominion of Schellenberg and the County of Vaduz – were merged together and the monarchy was elevated to the status of an Imperial Principality. The day was commemorated with a march to which all people of Liechtenstein were invited. It led two groups from the very south and north of the country to the “Scheidgraben”, the small trench that marks the border between the upper and the lower parts of Liechtenstein, which on January 23, 1719 were united creating Liechtenstein.
In the evening, an official celebration was held with remarks from H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, H.E. the President of the Liechtenstein Parliament Albert Frick and H.E. Prime Minister Adrian Hasler, in the presence of the Heads of State of Switzerland, Austria and Germany. For further information about Liechtenstein 300th anniversary, visit www.300.li/en.
