Liechtenstein has New Parliament and Prime Minister

On February 9th, Liechtensteiners elected their new parliament, the Landtag. Two months later, Liechtenstein’s Head of Government Brigitte Haas (VU - Patriotic Union) was officially sworn in by H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein at Vaduz Castle on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

In the opening speech for the new session of the parliament, H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein thanked the members for taking up responsibility to serve in these current turbulent times. He highlighted the tense geopolitical situation and its impact on economic conditions. He also highlighted challenges regarding the future of Liechtenstein’s media landscape and the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein also outlined security policy as a priority and called for an intensification of diplomatic relations and for fostering partnerships. Liechtenstein’s strategy to address demographic challenges and ensuring education does not lag behind the rapid developments in artificial intelligence were also highlighted as policy priorities. Sound policies in these areas will contribute to Liechtenstein’s stability and competitiveness and allow for an optimistic outlook into the future.

The Princely Liechtenstein Government for the 2025-2029 legislative period is made up of Prime Minister Brigitte Haas of the VU (Vaterländische Union - Patriotic Union), Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni of the FBP (Fortschrittliche Bürgerpartei - Progressive Citizens Party) and the members of the government Hubert Büchel (VU), Daniel Oehry (FBP) and Emanuel Schädler (VU).

Prime Minister Brigitte Haas will head the Ministry of General Government Affairs and Finance. Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni is responsible for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Environment and Culture. Minister Hubert Büchel leads the Ministry of the Home Affairs, Economy and Sport. Minister Daniel Oehry leads the Ministry of Infrastructure and Education and Minister Emanuel Schädler leads the Ministry of Social Affairs and Justice.

The five-member government of Liechtenstein is traditionally composed of the two largest parties of the parliament. The Landtag, Liechtenstein's Parliament, is comprised of a total of 25 seats with the following distribution of seats:
